At Chad Roberts Design we specialize in the creation and management of visual identities for creative people, organizations and the products they produce.


We approach branding holistically by creating identity systems that come alive in application. This allows us to consider how each element in the system is integrated and visually reinforces the core message of the brand, resulting in identity systems that are timeless and visually striking.

Chad Roberts, Creative Director
Chad has always been passionate about food. So much so that he studied to become a chef before discovering he was more interested in the visual culture of the food industry. He quickly shifted his focus to a career path that married his two loves: cuisine and aesthetics.


Chad studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where after graduating as Valedictorian, he became a faculty member. During his time in New York, Chad spent five years working as a senior designer with Louise Fili Ltd. creating brand identities for many leading gourmet food companies. He left the studio to become an art director at New York-based DesignWorks BBDO before moving to Toronto and establishing his own boutique studio.


Chad is a member of the Type Directors Club and served on the board of directors from 2006-2008. His award-winning work has been featured in multiple publications and in several books on design and the design process. More recently, Chad was a sessional instructor at OCAD University in the Faculty of Design.

Joanna Todd, Senior Designer
After obtaining a Journalism degree from Ryerson University, Joanna instead found herself in a visual communications position at a consumer insights firm. It is here that she discovered her love for design and reawakened her love of illustration and went back to OCAD to study full-time. While in school she worked for TIME magazine, where she not only designed print materials, but also major events for film industry post-screening parties during TIFF, including Corpse Bride, North Country, Trumbo, Rocknrolla and Michael Clayton. After earning a Bachelor of Design (Hons) degree, she became the Senior Designer at The National Ballet of Canada, where she stayed for seven years, while simultaneously designing brand identities for small business clients. She has a knack for hand-lettering, calligraphy and performing Photoshop magic on sullied pointe shoes and bodysuits.



Ian Fotheringham, Project Manager & Developer
Hailing from the rural farmlands of Ontario, this country bumpkin landed in the big city as a competitive figure skater. After many years of sequins and glitter, he hung up his skates to attend OCAD University, becoming a graduate of the Industrial Design program. Ian has been with the studio for over four years facilitating print and web production.



Jacob Colosi, Junior Designer
A native of the picturesque Niagara Peninsula, Jacob attended the York University / Sheridan College Joint Program in Design to earn his Bachelor of Design (Hons) degree, receiving multiple scholarships for academic achievement. As a graduate with honours, Jacob is ready to be a part of the design industry and create award-winning work. In addition to collecting nutcrackers, he is a connoisseur of recipe books.
