Kitten & the Bear brand identity design
Kitten & the Bear jam packaging design
Brand Identity, Packaging Design.
The desire to move from selling at their local farmers' market to a legal retail package drove the need for a brand and packaging redesign for this up-and-coming pair of confituriers.

Our design respects the defining qualities of the original packaging while introducing illustrated elements and classic typography. The labels accommodate the 200+ batches of unique flavours produced each year while meeting the legal requirements for packaging in Canada and an additional variation for the United States.

Brand Audit, Packaging Design, Hand Lettering.
This design brings the focus of the Balzac’s Blend packaging back to their superior product: handcrafted artisanal coffee.

As one of Ontario’s original microroasters and independent coffee companies,
it was important for the design choices to reflect their founding values – natural, sustainable, artisanal and local.

Balzac's Coffee Roasters RealCup single serve packaging design
Balzac's Coffee Roasters RealCup
Packaging Design.
Designed for mass-market distribution, the Balzac’s Realcup boxes extend the existing brand into the realm of consumer packaging. Careful consideration was paid to creating an identifiable brand block on supermarket shelves,
as well as maintaining a unique brand voice in a crowded niche (single-serve coffee pods).

Brand Audit, Packaging Design.
The result of a collaboration between Balzac’s Coffee Roasters and award-winning Canadian author Margaret Atwood, this design highlights their commitment to the environment and concern for avian ecosystems.

By combining the stunning illustration with strong type, the new design has significant shelf presence that emotionally engages consumers.

Naming, Brand Identity, Packaging Design.
Our involvement with this project began with the product name itself. We were asked to create a name that gave an impression of heritage, and that evokes the optimism and innocence of America’s golden age. A tagline was also created to highlight the bakery’s location in San Francisco, CA.

After determining the name, we developed an identity and packaging concept that reinforces the brand’s perspective by leveraging a classic American gingham pattern accentuated with rustic typography.
